Civil Aviation : Air-Control Witnessed Leaps During the Course of its Development

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation confirmed today (Saturday) that the air-control in Kuwait has witnessed leaps and intense moments during the course of its development within the air-transport sector. In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Directorate said that on the occasion of the International Day of Air- Controllers, which falls today, the task of the air controller is not less important than that of the aircraft captain since he represents the link between the aircraft and the airport. The Directorate pointed out that it will be celebrating tomorrow (Sunday) the International Day of Air-Controllers under the slogan (We Develop and Grow) to highlight the importance of the controller’s role and function in this sector. The Directorate affirmed its keenness to endorse a selected group of national specialized staff who are capable of managing air-traffic and dedicated to their work, as well as the continuity of air-traffic safety. The Directorate stated that the air-controller is like the traffic- police in the airspace, who sits in front of the radar screen for hours to detect the pulses of the aircraft, ensures directing them to the correct route, and specifies the paths of each aircraft in the Kuwaiti (2) airspace, because he is responsible for ensuring the safety of traffic as well as the safety of millions of passengers on the ground. The International Day of Air Controllers falls on 20 th October of each year, which coincides with the anniversary of establishing the International Association of Air-Controllers in year 1961, aims to familiarize the communities around the world with the importance of the role of air-controller.
